In Brisingr, we start with Eragon fulfilling a promise he made to his cousin, Roran. The two of them, with the aide of Saphira, undertake a dangerous journey to the lair of the Ra'zac where Eragon and Roran finally get their revenge! While there, Eragon makes some hard decisions that may come back to haunt him in the future, and Roran is reunited with his bride-to-be, Katrina.Eragon, Saphira, and the Varden have to deal with a surprise attack from Galbatorix's soliders, as well as Murtagh and his dragon, Thorn. The Varden are victorious although they do sustain many casualties, but Eragon/Saphira and Murtagh/Thorn remain at a stale- mate.
After the battle, Eragon must travel to the Dwarves where he oversees their election of a new king. A new king is eventually elected (won't spoil who) and Eragon and Saphira travel to the Elves to try to learn a few more things about being dragon and rider. During their short stay with the elves, Eragon gets a new dragon rider's sword, which he names Brisingr, and finds out some very important things about the past and his parentage.
Eragon and Saphira must leave the elves shortly after they arrive to join the Varden in trying to take another city, but before they leave the elves, Eragon and Saphira's trainers give them a very precious gift, and in doing so help ensure a more hopeful future for all of Alagaesia. This book ends as the previous two did, with an epic battle and many lives lost - a couple very important ones in this book.
I am really looking forward to the conclusion of this series, Inheritance, and can't wait to see how Eragon and Saphira will overthrow Galbatorix and his evil dragon Shruikan; hopefully Murtagh and Thorn are able to come around to the good side too!
